a video of zola jesus‘ new nike commercial has leaked onto the information superhighway. it seems like a natural move for the musician who has already conquered the underground, the buzzworthyground, the fashionground, and is now moving into athleticwearground. conatus indeed.
can you decipher the messages? is the message a declaration of her new musical direction of computer manipulated wizardry? is the message incomplete… pending a z.mp3 release? are u excited she is playing coachella?
take a listen…
u skimmed my fave songs of 2010 list… now here is the brutal hipster fave albums list of 2010 list for you to totally ignore.
though were are many excellent releases this year, these are probably the ones i spent the most time listening to. also, putting these picks in order of significance is pretty much the hardest thing a person can do. like sofies choice hard. but i cheated by looking at other blogs that already put out their year-end lists.
zola jesus is “one to watch”. she is a voice. a bold voice. with a bad ass name. and she will scare young children. and delight those with a gothic pulse.
having dished out a handful of releases, her more recent recordings feature a more refined sound, in more digestable servings, as opposed to some of her more abstract diamanda galas-ish (loosely) banshee-wave drone.
here we have her brand spankin new poltergeisty music video for “sea talk”. get spooked!
