metallica fans in the czech republic didnt know what hit them when the band unleashed a first-of-its-kind performance playing the entire black album BACKWARDS.

this is big news people. most bands think its a special deal to play an album from beginning to end. but metallica, being the always-foward-thinking band they are, played their most commercially successful album in its entirety from the last song to the first song!!

bravo metallica. there is a reason you guys are on top.

one uninteresting band to cover another uninteresting band for record store day release

it was just announced that the meandering metal bros, mastodonkey, will be making a second entry into the record store day cult by covering the overcooked flaming lips whos only flames they fan are their own. the 7″ will feature the flaming lips’ “a spoonful weighs a ton” on the a-side and the mastodon rendition on the b-side.

will this offering prove that two mehs make a yeah!?

computer glitch revives dormant blog, spams twitter with old posts #glitchhop

errora blog named brutal hipster was accidentally revived in an embarrassing manner after a computer glitch caused by social publishing platform dlvr.it blogging platform wordpress to auto-spamm twitter with 10 old posts dating back as far as june 23rd of 2011.

this unfortunate situation resulted in many angry twitter followers, with at least 10 having already unfollowed @brutalhipster.

those who werent quick to dismiss the anonymous blogger demanded a public apology for the social networking faux pas. approximately two hours after the incident, @brutalhipster tweeted…

not sincerest of apologies but this suppresses fear that the mysterious cat has moved on to the next of his nine lives. will we hear from brutal hipster again??

johnny marr teams up w/ best coast to write a song that sounds like best coast

ex-smiths guitarist johnny marr has teamed up with a bunch of young relevant artists, including best coast, providing inspiration for new songs. the best coast song “in your sleep” sounds exactly like best coast. not sure why he was necessary since best coast can pump out great tunes without his help.

i suppose its a way for mister marr to keep up with the kids by involving himself in some totally distant way like fabricating some fantasy, location-based, instagram-filtered, cool story (bro) about something that didnt actually happen.

r.e.m. follow netflix’s lead, split into threes

r.e.m. have decided that staying inactive has been too much of a burden to the band and have decided in the best interest of the world at large to split into threes following netflix’s recent split into two entities.

their official statement is about as interesting as their past decade of work…

“to our fans and friends: as r.e.m., and as lifelong friends and co-conspirators, we have decided to call it a day as a band. We walk away with a great sense of gratitude, of finality, and of astonishment at all we have accomplished. To anyone who ever felt touched by our music, our deepest thanks for listening.”

sunset junction bucks festival trend, stirs media attention before the event instead of after

anyone with a twitter account or the slightest pulse on the music scene ought to be familiar with the consistently absurd pattern of recent music festivals making headlines after the event due to various organizational slips (or catastrophes) such as death (drugs!), chaos (lines!), snafus (no more booze!), etc.

well, the annual sunset junction music fest has done what its hipster-infested circus (sorry too easy) and marched to the beat of its own drum circle by tripping on its own untied shoes. sunset junction faced an injunction this week that they were not able to meet causing the fest, originally to have taken place this weekend, to sunset.

the sunset junction promoters had not the permits because it owed the city a bunch of monies from last years event. the sun junx went into panic mode and asked the public for donations (err hopefully attendees already shelled out money to the once-free event). that went nowhere. then in came the might corporation even non-hipsters love to hate, live nation. live nation ponied up $10k to support the fest but that city said “ur monies no good, please take a shower u filthy hipsters” and denied the permit.

but way to keep everyone on their toes. this pre-media frenzy was not anticipated. nor was getting in bed with live nation.

whatevs… this years lineup was kinda was all sorts of meh. so what u finna do this weekend?
